This coming weekend, the NTT IndyCar Series will see a new car to set the pace on the track. The privilege of serving as the pace car for the series’ competitors this weekend has been given to the 2020 Honda Civic Type R, which is just as perfect for IndyCar as Jimmie Johnson. Touted by Honda as the fastest production FWD car in the world, the 2020 Civic Type R is powered by a race-bred 2.0-liter, direct-injected turbocharged engine delivering 300 hp of max output and 295 lb.-ft. of peak torque. It will make its Pace Car debut at the Bommarito Automotive Group doubleheader race weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway, located just outside St. Louis, Missouri.

Honda’s latest Pace Car started off as a production version of the Civic Type R Pace Car. It was then modified by Honda Performance Development (HPD) to Pace Car specs with an HPD brake package (competition rotors, racing pads and stainless steel brake lines) while installing a safety roll cage as well as four-point racing harnesses.

On the track, the Honda Civic Type R needs to look like a proper NTT INDYCAR SERIES Pace Car. To achieve its looks, the Civic Type R was wrapped in a Boost Blue exterior finish and covered with an exclusive custom graphics package. The Civic Type R Pace Car will look cool as it leads IndyCar racers to the green flag.
