Ken Blocks Drifts the World’s First All-Electric Rally Cross Car

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Ken Block has proved himself as a top-tier drifter and skilled driver in many gasoline-powered vehicles. But now, he’s proving himself in the world’s first all-electric rally cross car. I’m talking about his Ford Fiesta ERX, which puts down 600 horsepower and over 800 lb-ft of torque. Because it’s an electric car, that torque is ready in an instant. In the video down below, you’ll see him whip this electric Fiesta around Höljes Sweden. Sure, watching the car drift and jump is exciting, but one of my favorite parts has to be Neil Cole’s reaction during his ride-along. Check it out for yourself down below!

The Horse Whisperer Jersey Jerry Gives Us An Outrageous Kentucky Derby Take

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

For those of you who have not been with us week after week to tune into maybe the most outrageous guest off all-time on The Brilliantly Dumb Show, ‘Jersey Jerry’ has been setting the place on fire. Jerry, a wild card with no filter from New Jersey, is competing for a chance to win his own segment on the show. He has held nothing back on his bizarre takes and picks and is slowly turning into “Jerry Mush” as he is off to a 0-2 start. But nobody knows horses better than Jerry himself and this week he tries to get things back on track as he hunts down a winner for this weekend’s Kentucky Derby.

Before Jerry gave his Derby pick I had him rattle off all 18 horses in the race which he insisted he can do with ease. Jerry has spent his time gambling at the track ever since he was a kid and was introduced to the sport by his late, great, grandfather “Joe Tears”. Mr. Tears was given the name for his constant ability at the track to pick nothing but losers. This weekend Jerry looks to redeem himself with his pick Authentic on a win, place, or show bet. Jerry insists to bet a ton on it, but with his track record, you may want to think twice before hammering about on Jerry’s “lock”.

Whether you take the bet or not, you have to do yourself the favor of listening to Jerry’s segment on the pod and watch him plead his case for this horse. It is incredible content that the fans of the show can’t seem to get enough of. Be sure to subscribe to The Brilliantly Dumb Show on YouTube and all other streaming platforms to get your Jersey Jerry fix on a week to week basis on the show.

The Reverse Sear: The Best Cooking Method for Steak

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

grilled steak cut sliced on cutting board

With our archives now 3,500+ articles deep, we’ve decided to republish a classic piece each Friday to help our newer readers discover some of the best, evergreen gems from the past. This article was originally published in September 2017.

While on book tour in Chicago a few months back, I had the honor and pleasure of sitting down to enjoy a leisurely meal, and a few cold beers, with the one and only Meathead Goldwyn. For those not in the know, Meathead is a world-renowned pitmaster, and he distinguishes himself from the pack by focusing on the science of cooking.

Our delicious food ran out after an hour, but the conversation, and the beers continued. And of course a good conversation can always stir up an opinion or two. As I learned, Meathead never shies away from making and defending opinions that go completely against culinary tradition, instruction, and know-how.

Though such controversy is well-documented on his own site, I thought it prudent to put one of his theories to the test. The challenge? Meathead believes that we are cooking our steaks all wrong!

Now, steak carries high favor over here at the Art of Manliness, and as one who has written many a recipe on cooking it, I tried my best not to be offended. But the more I listened, and the more I read up on Meathead’s reverse sear technique, the more I became intrigued.

Throwing Tradition Out the Window

Although there are many ways to cook a steak, most chefs, culinary professionals, and experts agree on which method is best: sear the heck out of it over high heat, followed by a period of indirect heat until the steak reaches the desired temperature, and finish with a 10-15 minute rest (off of heat) until ready to serve.

Meathead says to throw that all out the window, and to do the whole process in reverse.

Certainly, this is not the first I have heard of such a technique. French chefs pioneered a similar method of cooking in the 1970s using their sous-vide style of cooking. Essentially, the sous-vide method entails sealing food in some sort of wrap, and submerging it into a precisely controlled, typically low temperature, water bath. The benefit of this technique is that it slowly brings the entire cut, from edge to edge, to the exact internal temperature desired — say 130 degrees. The problem with this method is that one would likely never eat the grey mass of meat when pulled from the bag, even though its internal temp is a near perfect medium-rare. To solve this issue, a chef will finish a sous-vide cut over high heat on a grill or pan to get the caramelized flavor and color (known as the Maillard reaction) that many of us are accustomed to enjoying. Additionally, because the cut was slowly brought up to temperature, it’s more evenly heated through, which means that resting the cut is not necessary (resting normally allows for some of that searing heat to transfer into the center). All that said, the sous-vide method is time consuming (it can take hours to bring a cut up to temperature), and it can be expensive — a decent in-home machine, though coming down in price and improving in technology, will still run you a few hundred bucks.

Fortunately, you don’t need a special sous-vide cooker to use the reverse sear method on a steak, and you can get a similar effect using an ordinary grill or smoker. Meathead in fact claims to be the first to perfect the reverse sear by way

In defense of California

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

About a year after graduating from college, I packed my possessions into a rental van I’d split with a near stranger and departed my home state of Ohio. We steered onto I-70 West, bound for San Francisco.

At the time, I was less drawn to California in any specific way than determined to escape a state that was too conservative, homogenous, and religious for my tastes. Plus, oof, the winters.

But that soon changed. The more I explored California’s coastline, hiked the trails of the Sierra, stared up at the granite walls of Yosemite, and met others who felt pushed or pulled here, the more I developed what I jokingly call a “zeal of the convert” attitude toward the state. Today, more than two decades after I arrived here in that rental van, this allegiance manifests as knee-jerk defensiveness when others take shots at California.

And so it’s been heartbreaking to watch my adopted state suffer through some of the deadliest and most devastating fire seasons in its history. And it’s been infuriating to see commentators pounce on the tragedies, or the planned electricity blackouts designed to prevent them, and declare that they’ll doom the state or spark a mass exodus.

Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. JAMES TEMPLE

It’s an increasingly popular take, producing ridiculous headlines like “California is becoming unlivable, according to science” and “California is a failed state. How do we know? They’re moving to Arizona in droves.” (Links withheld out of pettiness.)

But I’ll admit that my reaction to such suggestions wasn’t as swift or aggrieved when this year’s outages and fires began.

Last month, the state’s main grid operator ordered a series of rolling blackouts, California’s first unplanned outages in nearly two decades, as millions of air conditioners strained to keep up with blistering heat waves.

That same week, hundreds of small lightning-sparked fires converged into conflagrations that soon ripped across more than a million acres, forced more than 100,000 residents to vacate their homes, and filled Northern California’s sky with dangerously high levels of particulate matter. Fires have destroyed thousands of properties and killed eight people in the state so far this year.

What’s

How does loneliness affect our brains?

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Long before the world had ever heard of covid-19, Kay Tye set out to answer a question that has taken on new resonance in the age of social distancing: When people feel lonely, do they crave social interactions in the same way a hungry person craves food? And could she and her colleagues detect and measure this “hunger” in the neural circuits of the brain?

“Loneliness is universal thing. If I were to ask people on the street, ‘Do you know what it means to be lonely?’ probably 99 or 100% of people would say yes,” explains Tye, a neuroscientist at the Salk Institute of Biological Sciences. “It seems reasonable to argue that it should be a concept in neuroscience. It’s just that nobody ever found a way to test it and localize it to specific cells. That’s what we are trying to do.”

In recent years, a vast scientific literature has emerged linking loneliness to depression, anxiety, alcoholism, and drug abuse. There is even a growing body of epidemiological work showing that loneliness makes you more likely to fall ill: it seems to prompt the chronic release of hormones that suppress healthy immune function. Biochemical changes from loneliness can accelerate the spread of cancer, hasten heart disease and Alzheimer’s, or simply drain the most vital among us of the will to go on. The ability to measure and detect it could help identify those at risk and pave the way for new kinds of interventions.

In the months ahead, many are warning, we’re likely to see the mental-health impacts of covid-19 play out on a global scale. Psychiatrists are already worried about rising rates of suicide and drug overdoses in the US, and social isolation, along with anxiety and chronic stress, is one likely cause. “The recognition of the impact of social isolation on the rest of mental health is going to hit everyone really soon,” Tye says. “I think the impact on mental health will be pretty intense and pretty immediate.”

Yet quantifying, or even defining, loneliness is a difficult challenge. So difficult, in fact, that neuroscientists have long avoided the topic.

Loneliness, Tye says, is inherently subjective. It’s possible to spend the day completely isolated, in quiet contemplation, and feel invigorated. Or to stew in alienated misery surrounded by a crowd, in the heart of a big city, or accompanied by close friends and family. Or, to take a more contemporary example, to participate in a Zoom call with loved ones in another city and feel deeply connected—or even more lonely than when the call began.

This fuzziness might explain the curious results that came back when Tye, before publishing her first scientific paper on the neuroscience of loneliness in 2016, ran a search for other papers on the topic. Though she found studies on loneliness in the psychological literature, the number of papers that also contained the words “cells,” “neurons,” or “brain” was precisely zero.

Neuroscientists have long

Create your own moody quarantine music with Google’s AI

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

The Google Magenta team, which makes machine-learning tools for the creative process, has made models that help you compose melodies, and tools that help you sketch cats. Mostly because it’s fun, but also to explore how AI can make creation more accessible. Its latest project now gives anyone a chance to make quarantine tunes to vibe to—no music training necessary.

Lo-Fi Player, designed by Vibert Thio, a technologist and artist who interned with the team this summer, lets users interact with objects in a virtual room to mix their own lo-fi hip-hop soundtracks. The goal is to make the music-mixing experience as simple and friendly as possible. The room is a two-dimensional, pixelated drawing displayed in a web browser. Clicking on different objects, like the clock and the piano, prompts the user to adjust different tracks, like the drum line and melody.

customize with ease gif

There are two machine-learning models at work in the background. One, tucked away in the radio, generates new melodies when clicked on; the other, hidden in the TV, interpolates between two melodies to create something that sounds a little bit like both.

Most of thr sounds in the room, however, are not generated by machine learning—and that’s kind of the point. Throughout the process, Thio worked with lo-fi producers to curate bass lines, drum lines, and background ambience that exemplify the genre and sound good. He also wrote four melody options that users can choose from. The machine learning adds just enough of a wild card on top of the scripted tracks to give each user a unique mix.

youtube streaming gif

The initial launch of Lo-Fi Player also includes an interactive YouTube livestream, where users can type commands into the chat window to change the music. The idea is to make music creation a more collective experience, with quarantine in mind. “What a tiny, small thing to bring us together during covid,” says Doug Eck, a research scientist who supervised the project.

Right now the project is in its first version, but Thio already sees more possibilities. His dream project is to make a kind of TikTok for music creation—an interface that makes it really easy for non-musicians to play with music editing, share their creations, and express themselves.

Aston Martin Victor Unveiled at Hampton Court Concours d’Elegance

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

We hope the weather holds off in London this weekend. The best cars in the United Kingdom have been joined by the latest from English automakers. Not to be outdone by any other make, the Aston Martin Victor has been unveiled at Hampton Court Concours d’Elegance. It has only been uncovered for a few hours, and the automotive world is truly in awe of what Aston Martin have accomplished. Based on the carbon fiber chassis of the One:77, it sends 836 horsepower to a six speed manual transmission.

While we didn’t want to risk a transatlantic flight given the current situation, we have found great shots and a film from friends on Instagram. Here is a clip from @masterkrishan

While it shares the inboard suspension and Brembo ceramic brakes as the One:77, this gorgeous coupe stands alone as a statement of what they are capable of. A twin-disk clutch was needed to handle the incredible power. It makes 836 horsepower without turbos or a supercharger. Just incredible engineering to their venerable V12. We found the best photos from @milesnurnberger, so tell us if you think they should build a few more examples of this masterpiece and stay with us for all your Aston Martin news.

Alex Rodriguez Is Reportedly Pissed That His Mets’ Ownership Bid Was Allegedly Leaked To Another Buyer

Alex Rodriguez is apparently convinced his bid to buy the New York Mets was leaked to a competitor
Getty Image

Former All-Star Alex Rodriguez was one of the leaders in the clubhouse when it came to purchasing the New York Mets, with A-Rod and his wife, Jennifer Lopez, believed to be serious contenders to buy New York’s “other” MLB team. While a decision has yet to be made on the final purchaser, Rodriguez and J-Lo’s collective group did put in a massive bid — believed to be around $2.3 billion — hoping it was enough to acquire the franchise.

However, according to the New York Post, Rodriguez backed out earlier this week after allegedly being livid that his offer for the Mets was reportedly leaked and presented to another potential buyer, Steven Cohen, who’s believed to have made an offer worth $50 million more than Alex Rodriguez’s and J-Lo’s group did, with the former ballplayer griping that the process was rigged, per sources. Giving other offers such exclusivity apparently pissed off Rodriguez, and with good reason.

Per CBS Sports:

“If you’re the Mets, you don’t want to grant an exclusive because it can have an impact on the other bidders,” Samson said. “Much like happened this weekend. When ARod found out that Steve Cohen had the exclusive, ARod backed out. Another bidder, Josh Harris and David Blitzer, they combined to form a team and they gave up.

“The other bidders dropped out once the exclusivity happened, which is what Steve Cohen wanted to have happened because he wanted to buy the Mets. What’s not being reported and what is critical is that’s it hasn’t been giving a time period.”

With reports floating around that this exclusivity may have, in fact, occurred — pushing out the Alex Rodriguez-J-Lo group offer — one person close to the negotiations did mention that, while rare, these types of things do happen. After all, it’s the sellers’ purpose to get the highest amount.

Per The New York Post:

“It’s not normal, but things like this do happen,” said Steven Smith, a managing partner at law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner who specializes in sports transactions. “In the end, the sellers’ goal is to get the highest price for the team.”

That might be the case, but reports claim A-Rod’s group would’ve surely come in with a higher bid had they

Charles Barkley Fires Back At ‘Full Of Crap’ Reporters Like Stephen A. Smith For Saying Steve Nash Was Hired By The Nets Due To ‘White Privilege’

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Charles Barkley is not happy with TV commentators like Stephen A.Smith who were critical of the Brooklyn Nets for hiring Steve Nash because they believe he benefitted from having “white privilege.”

On Thursday afternoon, the Nets stunned the NBA world when they announced they were hiring the former Phoenix Suns point guard despite the fact that he doesn’t have any coaching experience.

— theScore NBA (@theScoreNBA) September 3, 2020

During the latest edition of ESPN’s ‘First Take’ an angry Stephen A.Smith criticized the hiring and said that Nash benefitted from “white privilege” because a black person would not have been given the time of day by league executives without having prior coaching experience.

I love Steve Nash! But……. pic.twitter.com/lo73hhoM0q

— Stephen A Smith (@stephenasmith) September 3, 2020

“Ladies and gentlemen, there’s no way around it: This is white privilege,” “This does not happen for a Black man. No experience on any level as a coach and you get the Brooklyn Nets job?”

“Sometimes, you just want to scream — want to scream to the high heavens: How the hell is this always happening for somebody else other than us?” Smith exclaimed. “Why is it that we have to be twice as good to get half as much? Why is it that no matter what we do, or how hard we work, and how we go through the process and the terrain of everything … somehow, someway, there’s another excuse to ignore that criteria to ignore those credentials and instead bypass it and make an exception to the rule for someone other than us.”

After the Clippers-Nuggets game on Thursday night, Barkley said he was disappointed by the “white privilege” comments made by “full of crap” TV analysts. Barkley went on to cite several examples of black coaches being hired without prior coaching experience during his rant.

— Cameron Cox (@CamCox12) September 4, 2020

I was very disappointed by some of the guys on television today talking about white privilege, very disappointed. They’re like this doesn’t happen to black guys and I’m like, well it happened to Doc Rivers, it happened to Jason Kidd, it happened to Derek Fisher.

I think you have a responsibility especially when you talk about something serious like race, you can’t be full of crap. You have to be honest and fair. Steve Nash is a great player and a good dude, but I was so disappointed with some of these guys.

Do we need more black coaches in the NBA? Yes. Do we need more black coaches in college football? Yes. Do we need more black coaches in pro football? Yes, but this wasn’t the right time to say it today. Good luck to Steve Nash.

4 Tips for Taking Better Photos With Your Smartphone

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

A couple months ago my fancy DSLR camera that I use for work purposes crapped out on me. It was a decade old so it wasn’t too surprising. The question, then, was whether to buy another professional camera or just upgrade to an iPhone Pro. After plenty of research, I came to the conclusion that the difference in quality and functionality for the layman photographer (which includes me; I take photos for work, but taking photos isn’t my job) between a pro camera and a smartphone camera just isn’t great enough to justify having two separate pieces of tech.

The smartphone cameras of 2020 are true wonders of technology. Not only is the photo quality exceptional, but the free editing functions are akin to software that used to cost hundreds of dollars. Unless you’re a professional photographer (or a very serious amateur), there just isn’t much need to venture beyond the device in your pocket.

Yet even with its suite of built-in features, taking great pictures with your phone isn’t necessarily easy or intuitive. After I got an iPhone Pro, I took a couple classes to get the hang of the phone as well as learn some basic photography skills and I’ve been thrilled with the results. Below are what I consider the simplest and most effective tips to upgrade the photos you’re taking with your smartphone.

1. Use Grid Lines (At First)

young boy on a trail with photo grid lines overlaid.

One of the classic tenets of photography (and most visual art mediums) is the “rule of thirds.” An image should be broken into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. As a grid, this makes for nine squares. Your instinct is probably to put the main subject of your photo right in the center. Don’t do that. Instead, place the subject — whatever you’re trying to take a picture of and draw people’s eyes to — near one of the four intersecting points.

To get acquainted with using the rule of thirds, you can easily make those grid lines show up right on your camera screen:

iPhone: “Settings” —> “Camera” —> toggle “Grid” on Android: from Camera app, go to “Settings” —> scroll down to “Grid Lines” and toggle on

Once you get used to the grid, you’ll naturally get better at composing your photos, and you can turn the grid lines off.

In addition to helping you follow the rule of thirds, using grid lines also helps accomplish another key tenet of good photography (and design in general): embracing negative/white space. Rather than filling up the entire photo with your main subject, you want to leave white space around it, which actually better draws the eye towards your focal point. Whether you’re taking a picture of a person, a mountain, or a plate of food, the primary focus of the photo, in most cases, shouldn’t compose more than ⅓ to ½ of the total area in your frame.

Look at the photo above. By using the rule of thirds and placing the

Gordon Murray Automotive Announces the T.50s Race Car

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Gordon Murray Automotive has just announced a new racing-focused version of their T.50 supercar called the T.50s. This new version will be lighter, faster and more powerful than the highly-anticipated T.50. While specs are currently unknown, we can assume quite a few things. First of all, it will have more than 654 horsepower and 344 lb-ft of torque coming from its Cosworth 3.9-liter V12 engine. It will also weigh less than 2,173 lbs. This is me basically just stating the specs of the T.50 and saying the T.50s will either be more powerful or lighter. Needless to say, we are more than excited so be sure to stick with us for more information as it’s released.

Ideas wanted: Help make the world’s biggest covid-19 symptom database useful

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

The news: Since April, the Delphi research group at Carnegie Mellon University has been compiling one of the world’s largest databases for covid-19 symptom tracking. Now it’s launching a new challenge with Facebook and other partners to crowdsource data projects for improving the nation’s pandemic response.

The data: The Delphi group, one of the best flu-forecasting teams in the US, has been surveying people in the US about their symptoms via Facebook to help with the CDC’s covid forecasting efforts. The latest survey asks 36 questions about whether you have or know someone with symptoms, how often you come in contact with other people, whether you’ve been experiencing mental-health or financial challenges, and more. Every day, Facebook randomly selects a population of users to push the survey to in their news feeds. The answers are then sent directly to Delphi without the company ever viewing them.

As of May, the University of Maryland has joined the collaboration and has been administering an international version of the survey. The questions differ slightly because of data privacy regulations and the World Health Organization’s changing needs. Aggregated versions of both data sets will be released to challenge participants, and researchers can request special access to anonymized, de-aggregated versions of the data if they need it.

A wealth of analyses: Since the project began, Delphi says, it’s collected roughly 10 million survey responses in the US and 15 million abroad. More than 85% of US respondents who answer at least two questions fill out the survey to the end—a completion rate that far exceeds the researchers’ initial expectations. The research group has partnered with about a dozen other organizations to analyze the wealth of data for various purposes. Among others, they hope to develop local forecasting models for hospitals and study the impact of lockdowns on mental health.

“There is so much in this data, or potentially so much in this data, there’s no way that we alone could analyze the data and deliver every insight from it,” says Alex Reinhart, an assistant teaching professor in CMU’s Department of Statistics & Data Science, who is part of the team running the challenge. “To my knowledge, this is one of the largest surveys ever conducted outside of the census. So our feeling is that the symptom surveys would be at their most useful if many researchers who are studying the pandemic are able to use them.”

Fresh ideas: The challenge organizing team hopes to attract a broad range of participants, from researchers to laypeople, who can contribute fresh ideas for using the data.

A brief history of Chinese-American espionage entanglements

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, intelligence services in both Beijing and Washington have vied to uncover secrets in one another’s countries, and to safeguard their own secrets, in pursuit of military, economic, and technological advantage. Many bona fide spies on both sides have been caught; many innocents have been unfairly implicated. What follows is a brief history of key events in this conflict.

Qian XuesenWIKIMEDIA

1950

Qian Xuesen, co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and professor at Caltech, is stripped of his security clearance for alleged connection to the communist party. Qian, who had questioned Nazi rocket scientists on behalf of the U.S government after World War II and worked on the Manhattan project, resigns from Caltech and asks to leave the US for China, at which point he is held under house arrest for five years. In 1955 the US deports him and Qian is greeted as a hero in China and goes on to become the father of Chinese rocketry, helping jumpstart China’s space and missile programs. No substantive evidence has ever been released that he was a Chinese spy. Deporting Qian was “the stupidest thing the country ever did” according to Dan Kimball, Undersecretary of the Navy at the time of Qian’s arrest.

Brabham BT62R Debuts as Street Legal Race Car

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Great cars are worth the wait, so after 2 years of teasing you we are happy to announce that the Brabham BT62R has debuted as a street-legal race car. It is their third model, joining the Ultimate Track and Competition models. All the work needed to make it legal was done in-house, as opposed to 3rd party suppliers.

Brabham Automotive & Kyron Audio Unveil $250,000 Home Entertainment System

This has allowed the team to retain much of the race-ready hardware while complying with road laws. CEO Dan Marks said: Launching the BT62R is a great achievement for the team at Brabham Automotive. All the requisite design and engineering to turn the track BT62 into the road going BT62R has been done in-house by our team of engineers, which is a great testimony to their endeavor and expertise.”

To make it civilized, they added variable ride height for bumpy streets, emissions and sound-compliant exhaust, A/C with defrost, comfy seats, and the option for an audio system. Available in left or right-hand drive, it will arrive wearing Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSports. Their 5.4-liter V8 is rated at 700 horsepower and 492 lb-ft of torque. It is the most powerful production V8 without turbos or superchargers, sending power to a 6-speed sequential with street-friendly gear ratios. Chris Paul Blasts Referee Scott Foster After Game 7 Loss, Claims Foster ‘Made A Point’ To Tell Him He Reffed His Game 7 Loss In 2008

MansBrand.com Articles Provided as noted by attribution.

Chris Paul’s bitter feud with referee Scott Foster was rekindled during the Thunder’s heartbreaking 104-102 game 7 loss against the Rockets on Wednesday night.

Last year, a frustrated Paul said he met with the league because he believes the veteran NBA referee has a personal vendetta against him.

Chris Paul on his relationship with referee Scott Foster: “I don’t know what else to do – I’ve met with the league with him before. I don’t know what else to do.”
James Harden: “For sure it’s personal, for sure.”
Harden says Foster shouldn’t officiate Rockets games anymore.

— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) February 22, 2019

After game 7 of the Rockets-Thunder game, an angry Paul once again blasted Foster for giving him a bogus delay of game call.

According to Paul, he got called for delay of game because he was stalling by tying his shoe on the sideline while trying to wait and see if the arena would show a replay to help the team determine if they should challenge a play. Paul says Foster noticed him stalling and told him not to bother tying his shoe because they were going to sweep the floor. Foster still went on to call the delay of game violation on Paul which annoyed the Thunder point guard.

Chris Paul on the delay of game he got for tying his shoe, gave his old friend Scott Foster a shoutout: pic.twitter.com/udwtsjI1lN

— Royce Young (@royceyoung) September 3, 2020

I asked Chris Paul about the officiating – specifically that delay of game call. He named Scott Foster as says he knows he’ll get fined.

A passionate response that includes “that shit don’t make no sense…we could have won the game” pic.twitter.com/w2MpKr3Uyr

— Taylor Rooks (@TaylorRooks) September 3, 2020

Paul went on to claim that Foster “made a point” to tell him that he reffed his game 7 loss to the Spurs back in 2008 before tipoff of the Rockets-Thunder game for whatever reason.

Thunder guard Chris Paul says referee Scott Foster made a point to tell him before the Game 7 loss to the Thunder tonight that he also reffed his Game 7 loss to the Spurs in 2008 when CP was with the Hornets.

— Marc J. Spears (@MarcJSpears) September 3, 2020

Foster is universally disliked by players across the league, but it doesn’t seem to matter to the league because he continues to work high-profile games.
