World’s First 426 Hellephant-Powered Dodge Demon Hits The Strip

The modern muscle car wars in Detroit have been a gearhead’s dream, resulting in new takes on classic models that up the ante in terms of performance in huge leaps and bounds. Amid the hardcore Shelby Mustangs, track-focused Camaro variants, and all the Hemi-powered Dodges of the past few years, though, none stands out more than the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which left the factory in such aggressive spec that the National Hot Rod Association deemed it too dangerous to drag race. Of course, that didn’t stop people from going out and doing just that, though now, the game has been taken to another level once more with the debut of the world’s first Hellephant V8-powered Dodge Demon. And now, this beast has hit the drag strip for some early testing of its massive powerplant.

Burning rubber and popping wheelies are par for the course for every Dodge Demon owner, so the fact that a Hellephant-swapped version does the same should come as no surprise. Specifically, in a series of Facebook posts and YouTube videos by Hemituner Performance of Long Island, New York, this Demon is revealed to have received a supercharged version of Mopar’s 426ci Hellephant crate engine. Compared to the factory Demon, which pumps out up to 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque on 100-octane fuel, the Hellephant is producing 1,000 horsepower and 950 lb-ft of torque on only 93 octane fuel.

Built by AJ Berge, who took the Hellephant to the strip, the car was able to do a few passes, as shown in the YouTube clip. And it’s safe to say that just about every tuner on the planet would be happy to log a 9.278-second quarter-mile at a trap speed of 150.06 miles per hour on their first day at the strip without blowing up an engine or a transmission.
