The modern revival of muscle car wars between Detroit’s “Big Three” manufacturers has resulted in amazing performers like Ford’s Shelby Mustangs, Dodge’s Chargers and Challengers, and Chevrolet’s Camaros (plus, to some extent, the C8 Corvette). But even as horsepower stats march onward to four-figure levels and track-specific variants get more and more hardcore, there’s still something about the old classics that today’s products can’t touch. The world of restomods, meanwhile, has emerged as a way of combining old-school style with modern performance enhancements. While most get built out of classic muscle, however, an awesome Chevy Nova station wagon restomod just popped up on the auction website Bring a Trailer with a host of upgrades and rock-star ownership history, to boot.

This Nova was owned by Green Day’s bassist, Mike Dirnt, who had the restomod process completed. At the heart of the build is a 327ci V8, which routes power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic gearbox. The engine bay looks fairly clean with a Holley four-barrel carb, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and finned valve covers to complete the powerplant, though being sold out of Santa Fe, New Mexico, it’s clear this was no garage queen.

Other modifications include an independent from suspension system from Classic Performance Parts, as well as power steering and front disc brakes. The exterior has been repainted in red and white, with American Racing Hopster wheels and SS badging serving as hints towards the mechanical upgrades beneath the skin.

Meanwhile, the interior has received black vinyl upholstery, a RetroSound stereo system with an Alpine amp and CD changer, and the steel dash has been painted in the same color scheme as the exterior. As required in the hot New Mexico desert, air conditioning is equipped. Bidding currently sits at $4,000 with six days to go until the final gavel.
