Fiat’s iconic 500 model has been a mainstay on the roads of the world since 1957. Even though Fiat recently discontinued the base 500 here in the United States, enough have been sold to make the newer cars equally as ubiquitous here as the originals are on every corner of the globe. But where most Fiats are tiny commuter cars, one owner has transformed their Fiat 500 into a hill-climb and autocross monster thanks to a Hayabusa engine and a four-wheel-drive conversion.

The result is an awesome sports car that looks like a ton of fun and sounds great in the YouTube clip below featuring its high-revving motorcycle engine blasting at full throttle.

In a series of Instagram posts and YouTube videos, owner Roman Gurschler fully documents how potent his little car has become. Once upon a time, the car employed a BMW motorcycle engine, which has since been replaced by a more impressive inline-four sourced from the legendary Suzuki Hayabusa, arguably the world’s fastest and most famous motorcycle thanks to a powerplant that pumped out somewhere around 170 horsepower.

The stats surrounding the Hayabusa have always been controversial, but what’s not controversial is that the powerplant sounds like a blast—literally—mounted in a Fiat 500 that also features a sequential gearbox and a custom-made four-wheel-drive system that’s chain-driven.

With racing slicks, a low center of gravity, and a curb weight that must not be much more than an actual Hayabusa, it’s no wonder Gurschler manages to blast around with much larger, more powerful cars. Plus, there’s no doubt that the little Fiat is certain to attract much more attention thanks to its bright paintwork and iconic design, which straddles the line between cute and terrifying in this guise.
