Made in America, Toyota Tundra was first launched in 1999. It was actually the first Japanese full-size pickup, which had been made in the states. The company invested heavily in the infrastructure, and built its own plant in Indiana, for a wider reach and minimal logistics. The early designs looked a lot different. They were redesigned and modified in the 2007 – second-generation models. The year also gave them the 5.7l V8 engine.

Although there are better small pickups available from Toyota, that perform as well and tow more, the Tundra has consistently rated well above average, for its reliability by J D Power. Plus, they are durable and their resale values are great, even at 200,000 miles. So, if you have made your mind up on grabbing one, you won’t be disappointed.

Motor Trend awarded it Truck Of The Year in 2000 and 2008, however, it has come a long way from those times. The years to avoid while buying a used model are 2007, 2012, 2005, and 2008. In fact, the 2012 one is the worst pickup truck to buy in 2020. Tundra is the perfect choice for a driver who is looking at a reliable full-size truck. However, the market is flooded with used Tundras, so, which year will be good enough?

2013 Toyota Tundra is by far the best used Tundra (closely followed by the 2015 model) that you should buy in 2020.

Buying a used model might also let you get your hands on some of the coolest modified pickup trucks you have ever seen. Scroll down to find out why.

It comes with three options for the engine – 4 liter V6, 4.6 liter V8 and 5.7 liter V8. The first churns about 270 hp, the second 310 horsepower with a five-speed transmission. The third and the strongest engine churns 381 hp and is laced with a six-speed transmission. They all come with standard RWD.

An optional 4wd comes with only the V8 engine. While V6 is okay for the daily commute, V8 is stronger and more suitable for heavy-duty hauling and towing purposes. When buying a used model, it’s better to look for the V8.

2013 models also came in Limited TRD Rock Warrior double cab and Platinum trims with extra cruise control and remote entry options.

A new model off the showrooms will cost you upwards of $30,000, while a used ’13 one with more or less the same features, can easily be bought at much lower prices starting from $15,000. If you are okay to buy heavily used ones too, like something with about 200,000 miles, they can be bought at around $12,000 to $14,000. Don’t fret about the miles though, because these will still run on easily, for another 100,000 to 200,000 miles. The price also depends on what trims you are looking at, the truck’s mileage, its location, features, and of course its shape. A used
