Drag races might not be the most scientific means of discovering any one car’s performance potential, but that doesn’t mean that lining up and blasting off the line isn’t fun. The YouTube channel CarWow has been pitting some of the world’s most exciting vehicles against each other on a regular basis, with the latest video featuring a tuned Audi RS3 hatchback taking on a sparkling-new BMW M2 CS and a Mercedes-AMG A45 S in a drag battle for supremacy in Germany’s compact sports car market.

Of course, smaller details like tires and weather conditions probably make for bigger differences than the spec sheets of these impressive cars, but let’s get down to brass tacks anyway. The Audi in this clip left the factory equipped with a turbocharged inline-five engine plus a front-wheel-biased all-wheel-drive system thanks to the transverse engine layout in its cramped engine bay.

In stock form, that powerplant would have been good for 394 horsepower, though this example has received an upgraded intake and intercooler, plus an ECU tune to create a claimed output of 450 horses.

The BMW M2 CS, meanwhile, is a recent addition to BMW’s lineup that takes all the greatness of the M2 Competition and drops in an M4 Competition’s engine, plus some carbon fiber goodies and upgrades to the suspension and braking systems. The result is a 450-horsepower turbocharged inline-six routing power to the rear wheels through the choice of a six-speed stick shift or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. In this case, the automatic is equipped.

Lastly, the Mercedes-AMG product might be the most impressive, with a turbo-four that’s producing 421 horsepower mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch and an all-wheel-drive system. All that remains is to see whether initial traction or high-end power rules the day, though the sounds alone are worth it all.
