Fears of a global coronavirus pandemic may have ground the automotive industry to a halt, but the result of gearheads being stuck at home with nothing else to do is that the internet is now chock-full of happy owners social distancing behind the wheels of their favorite toys—and getting pulled over while doing so. Luckily, online reviewers like The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah don’t really need an extensive crew to keep chugging along and creating new sports car content, which has allowed Farah to recently take cars like both 2021 variants of the Toyota Supra and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera for cruises in the hills around Los Angeles. And it can be argued that his latest video ups the game in a big way, as Matt is clearly stoked to get a chance to test out a Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe in his most recent segment.

As usual, Farah begins the clip by explaining what’s going on with this car. The big strokes are that it’s a sports coupe with a massive BiTurbo V8 under the hood and futuristic styling nonetheless reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz’s glory days. As a way of comparing and contrasting the GT C Coupe, Farah tends to bring in the example of Porsche‘s 911 lineup. Much like the 911 has the base Carrera, the GTS, the Turbo, the GT3, and the GT2, Mercedes and AMG have gone all out, starting with the base GT and moving up to the GT S, GT C, GT R, and the 4-Door version—not to mention the forthcoming Black Series.

The GT C featured in the video can be compared favorably to something between the Porsche 911 GTS and Turbo. But it benefits from a beefy V8 that’s mounted—as Matt repeatedly emphasizes—entirely behind the front axle for optimal weight distribution. Even though the car tips the scales at over 3,500 pounds, with a body that’s a full four inches wider than a Porsche 992, the GT C has better balance thanks to the front-mid engine layout and a rear-mounted transaxle.

Farah clearly loves the GT C Coupe, as can be seen in his wrap-up. Besides its sporty dynamics and hardcore power, he’s also a fan of the luxurious, spacious interior and the fact that it’s a car that can be daily driven comfortably. Compared to the Supras and the Aston Martin he’s coming out of, this is one positive review that Mercedes and AMG can be proud of.
